Atlanta Weather

Contrary to many US states that enjoy warm to hot weather, Atlanta weather is a subtropical humid climate with rainfall generally experienced all year round. With this relatively good weather, the state is susceptible to tornados and these come from March to May, 3 months of uncertainty. As the cultural center of Georgia, it is best enjoyed during warm Atlanta weather. The winters are not as cold as other states but the heat that comes with summer can be unbearable.

Atlanta Weather During The Summer

From June to September, these three months will see temperatures steadily rise from the usual mid-20s to the 30s or more. Although the average temperature is in the 200C, it can get to 280 and more. The lowest temperature usually in Atlanta gets to 170C. Although it serves a bit of cooling for the high temperature during the afternoons, the heat can get quite uncomfortable. As a plus, there is an average of 10 hours of sunshine in June, just at the start of summer. This time, however, reduces gradually to about 8 hours by August. Something not typical with summer is rain. With Atlanta weather, the peak amount of rainfall falls in July- right in the middle of summer. With this in mind, those who want to visit in the summer, remember to pack an extra jacket as it may rain and you do not want to be caught outside in the rain.

Atlanta Weather During The Autumn

During the two months of autumn, November and December, the temperature will drop to between 230C and 180C. This usually comes as a relief from summer; at least the air conditioners can take a break from full time functionality during summer. The relief, however, is short lived especially during the night as temperatures can reach a chilly 60C. The days, however, are relatively warm getting to about 200C. The amount of rainfall is about 89.9mm and this is not spread out throughout the season, it usually happens suddenly, in form of storms. Because of this, the amount of visible sunshine gets affected; reducing from 10 hours to about 6 hours. Atlanta weather is quite a marvel and can confuse someone who is not used to live here.

Atlanta Weather During The Winter

Contrary to what many think that winter generally means a lot of snow, this is not the case with Atlanta weather. From December to February, the weather becomes cool and precipitation comes in form of rain rather than snow. Although it is generally cold, it can plummet to very cold and can get to almost freezing point. The average temperature gets to 130C and below with January, as the coldest month, experiencing less than 100C. The amount of rainfall on the average increases to about 118mm and the amount of sunshine drops again to about 5 hours. This, however, changes as winter comes to an end.

This is the most dreaded time of the year with Atlanta weather- Spring, the season of tornados. The temperatures will increase quickly from the winter temperatures of 130C to about 230C in April and almost 300C in May. Drought also affects Atlanta weather and can get so severe to the point of having rampant forest fires.
